OGCS Supports Epic Charity Ride in Aid of MND Research

We’ve recently partnered with the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, a charity dedicated to funding research and improving the lives of those affected by motor neurone disease (MND).

In a show of solidarity and support, a group of hardy amateur cyclists and ex-rugby players is undertaking a monumental challenge: riding 1,228 kilometers from the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) to the Sydney Opera House, in the week between the 2nd and 3rd test match on the British and Irish Lions current Tour of Australia.

This event builds on the amazing work undertaken by the My Name is Doddie Foundation in raising both funds to research and search for a cure to MND and to raise awareness of those who are currently battling MND, known as the MND Warriors.

A United Effort Across Continents

The riders are not alone. The initiative is being run in partnership with Global Fight Against MND, a leading Australian organisation in the MND space.

Their impact is enormous: fronted by Neale Daniher, former AFL player and coach, the charity has raised over $100 million AUD for MND research.

Daniher’s tireless work was recently recognised with the award of Australian of the Year 2025, a fitting acknowledgment of the impact he’s had in the fight against this devastating illness.

Together, the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation and Global Fight Against MND represent a powerful international collaboration focused on funding research, raising awareness, and sharing the real-life stories of those battling the disease.

The OGCS Connection

This ride is especially close to home for some of our team. It resonates with our sense of community, the community that the My Name is Doddie Foundation has built, and a desire to give back and contribute. Supporting the ride felt like a natural fit, with a number of keen cyclists and rugby supporters amongst our ranks, we were delighted to get involved when the opportunity arose. We are proud to have our OGCS logo featured prominently on the official team kit as they take on this physically and emotionally demanding journey.

““The team for Doddie’s Grand Tour are delighted to have the support of OGCS – it takes all of us getting involved to make a difference”, says Michael Farquhar, Project Manager for the ride.

More Than Just a Ride

The challenge ahead of the team is daunting: over 1,200 kilometers of road in just a week.

But this ride is about more than distance. It’s about momentum. About pushing forward on the road and in the lab. It’s about community, compassion, and the shared belief that more can and must be done to fight MND.

The campaign includes not only the ride itself but a collection of powerful stories from “MND Warriors” – individuals living with or affected by the disease. Their stories serve as the true inspiration behind every kilometer cycled and every dollar raised.

Looking Ahead

With the next British and Irish Lions Tour set to take place in New Zealand in 2029, there’s already excitement building and discussion within OGCS of doing even more to support this wonderful charity.

For now, though, we’re proud to stand behind this inspiring effort. It’s a reminder that meaningful action often starts with one step – or one pedal stroke – at a time. We look forward to following the team’s progress and continuing our support for the fight against MND.
